Forget Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis, for many the highlight of the London Olympics was seeing the Queen leap out of a helicopter at the Opening Ceremony. The stunt was part of a video which saw the monarch following James Bond to the Olympic Stadium, and the pair seem to have formed a lasting bond during the filming process.
Making a day of it: The Queen and Daniel Craig were spotted playing cards in a cafe near to Buckingham Palace
Looking relaxed: It was unusual to see the Queen without her army of bodyguards
Yesterday, Craig and the Queen were spotted playing a game of cards in a cafe around the corner from Buckingham Palace. It was surprising to see the Queen looking so relaxed and without an army of bodyguards. But, of course, she was in very safe hands with the James Bond actor.
Craig looked increasingly frustrated as the Queen beat him in back-to-back games of poker. Although he didn’t stay gloomy for long, and instead invited his new BFF to join him at his favourite cocktail bar.
On the move: This time the Queen and Craig decided to travel by taxi rather than helicopter
There was no chauffer-driven car waiting outside the cafe, though. The pair just jumped into a taxi.
When Craig and the Queen reached the sophisticated bar he had chosen they, of course, both opted for Martinis, “shaken, not stirred.”
As the afternoon wore on, the pair found increasingly inventive ways of drinking up their cocktails, but by 9pm they were both ready to head home.
Cheers! The Queen and Daniel Craig toast their unexpected friendship
Close bond: And things got even more exciting later on!
The monarch and actor were either feeling mischievous or surprised by the length of their bar bill, though. Instead of jumping into another taxi (or getting their chauffers to pick them up) the Queen and Craig headed for the tube… where they again turned a few heads.
Many commuters were astonished that the Queen had braved public transport.
“Dishy”: Daniel Craig later shielded the Queen from passers-by on the tube
Jennifer Hol told AlisonJackson.com: “The Queen made my journey home much more fun, she was doing her famous wave and I even got to shake her hand.
“Daniel Craig was by her side all the time though, making sure she was comfortable and felt safe. He’s pretty dishy, isn’t he?”
