A tall order for Sarkozy: French President turned to platform shoes to ensure he measured up

French privacy laws are not what they used to be. So, following the uproar caused by the publication of topless photos of Kate Middleton, we have finally been given the go-ahead to publish photos of vertically-challenged Nicolas Sarkozy – when he was President – trying out a new pair of shoes.

These aren’t just any shoes though. Sarkozy has been looking for ways to look taller for years, and these photos show he took his plight to new levels.

The photographs, stills from a video which was secretly filmed in the Elysee Palace in Paris, show Sarkozy and an aide trying out higher and higher platform heels. But the disgruntled politician still cannot reach the podium he is aiming for even when his shoes are taken to ridiculous Abba-esque heights. Eventually he just storms out of the room.

Noone knows why Sarkozy suddenly decided to up his game. But suggestions include the President’s alarm at how quickly his daughter, Giulia, was growing.
