Remember me? David Beckham tries to steal back attention from Sports Personality winner Bradley Wiggins

A couple of days ago we wrote of Gordon Ramsay‘s frustration at being overshadowed by MasterChef winners, and now it seems like his close friend David Beckham is suffering from a similar sort of jealousy. The footballer today tweeted a link to a video of him carrying the olympic flame in a suspected bid to overshadow Sports Personality of the Year winner Bradley Wiggins.

The Tour de France winner was given this year’s trophy by a surprisingly spritely-looking Duchess of Cambridge at a star studded ceremony last night. But while David Beckham did get to read out the winners’ names, he obviously felt he deserved even more attention.

In practice: The video shows Beckham running around his spacious hallway with the fake version of the flame

Becks tweeted: “Who cares about Wiggo, did he get to carry the Olympic Flame at the opening ceremony? I don’t think so.” He later added: “Here’s a film of me practising with a dummy of the flame. Don’t I look like a natural?”

You would have thought that with all the media coverage that has been devoted to the Beckhams since they decided to move back to the UK, David would be happy to fade into the background a little.  However it seems Becks really is just loving the attention.

Perhaps it is finally time to fade into retirement and let younger stars have their time in the limelight though, Becks? Or maybe the national treasure is just benevolently showing Wiggo how to hold onto the media attention for as long as is physically possible…
