Bolt from the boys in blue: Usain is caught speeding by the police

Usain Bolt made headlines around the world when he won both the 100 and 200 metre sprints at the London 2012 Olympics. But here’s a video he will have hoped he could keep out of the headlines.

On the move: A grainy image shows Usain Bolt walking towards his rented silver sports car

Incognito: The sprinter, who was wearing a jacket with Jamaica emblazoned on the back, gets behind the wheel

A couple of days before the Olympics’ closing ceremony, the Jamaican runner was spotted climbing into a silver sports car in West London. He then showed that he likes to be as fast on the capital’s busy roads as he is on the racing track by speeding through the streets.

The police were quick to respond to calls about the athlete’s dangerous driving – he was on his mobile phone and using the Olympic lane. However, the boys in blue initially struggled to keep up with the sports car which was travelling at 70 miles an hour.

Attracting attention: The police were quick to respond to calls about the erratic driver

Car chase: But the police struggled to catch up with the athlete who was travelling at 70 miles an hour

“Who does this guy think he is?” a policeman can be heard exclaiming on an officially-filmed grainy video during the chase. “He’s driving like an absolute $%&^.”

Eventually, though, Bolt did slow to a halt… But it took some persuading – and Usain’s trademark dance move – to make the police believe he was actually the London 2012 star.

Do you know who I am? Usain was happy to talk to the police, although it took a while for him to convince them who he was

…doing his signature dance move eventually did the trick

What happened next will come as a bit of an embarrassment to the Met Police. A bargain was struck between the runner and the police allowing Bolt to continue on his way.

On the plus side though, one policeman’s son will have been a very happy boy when his father came home from work that day with his hero’s autograph on a Jamaican flag.
